HMS Belfast

HMS Belfast from the opposite bank of the river Thames, from the Tower of London.
Initially planned quadruple  turrets proved to be impossible to manufacture due to ballistic problems with the ammunition, so the final design specified an improved version of the triple mounts used in the Southampton class. The middle gun was set back to stop the blast wave from the other shells interfering with the trajectory of its shell as it left the muzzle just behind the two outer barrels. The weight saved was used to improve armour protection and to increase the antiaircraft armament by 50 %.
